About Dr. Carli

No one wants to look like they've had cosmetic surgery, which is why it is important for your surgeon to have the proper training and credentials.

Dr. Alexander Carli graduated from medical school and served both his residency and internship at the University of Marseille in France. He then completed his plastic surgery residency in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Carli is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, dedicated to the highest standards of patient welfare and surgical excellence.

The term "Board Certification" does not necessarily mean that a surgeon has undergone in-depth plastic surgery training. Be certain your surgeon is "Certified" by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Carli has this certification and his patients are good examples of his artistry and in-depth experience.

Ask if your surgeon is Board Certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

If the surgeon or his office staff answers that he or she is Board Certified, demand to ask which Board he is certified in. If the answer is anything but Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery the doctor does not have the training required to perform Plastic Surgery.

Call the following numbers and ask if the doctor is Board Certified in Plastic Surgery:

American Board of Plastic Surgery at Ph: 1-215-587-9322
ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgery) at pH: 1-800-635-0635
California Society of Plastic Surgeons at pH: 1-800-722-2777

Doctors' offices may tell you that they are a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon. Don't let the title fool you. Again, as you will read below, the AMA does not recognize this Board and these surgeons have not gone through formal training. They perform cosmetic surgery without actually being trained in that type of surgery. Too often, they get in over their heads and are not able to prevent or treat complications like a formally trained surgeon. They lack "hands on" training in an approved training program.

If you are shopping for a better price, often you will see that a Cosmetic Surgeon has a lower fee than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. This may be very appealing but remember YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

We see patients who have gone to Cosmetic Surgeons because the price was lower. They come back to the Board Certified Plastic Surgeon after the Cosmetic Surgeon has not done the job correctly. Thus, to remedy the problem, the patient must now incur another fee for more surgery.

A cosmetic surgeon is not Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
