Scar RevisionScars are unpredictable, whether an accident or surgery causes them; their healing depends as much on your body as it does on the original injury or the surgeons' skills. Many things can affect the severity of scarring, including the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply, the thickness and color of your skin, even the direction of the scar. While you will always have a scar, plastic surgeons can often improve the appearance of a scar making it less visible or pronounced. There are many types of scars, 2 kinds are keloid scars which are thick clusters of scar tissue that grow beyond the edges of the wound or incision and hypertrophic scars are similar to keloids only they remain within the boundaries of the original incision. There are still many other varieties of scars.
Scar revision may be done to improve the look of your scar, although it will always be there, it may be less noticeable, giving you more self-confidence. After a scar revision it is important to follow your surgeon's advice although you may feel great, you must gradually return to normal activities.
Keep in mind that the degree of improvement depends on the size and direction of your scar, the quality of your skin and how well you care for your wound after your procedure. You must also be patient, as scars can take up to 6 months to 1 year to completely heal to their final result.
